Lt. Art Heiden's first P-38 serial# 42-67427
The aircraft was crashed by Lt. Vernon Beesley returning from a mission
after having one engine shot out, 23 April, 1944.


Another view of the crash site, near Podington, England.
The serial number of this aircraft was later used to identify Heiden's next mount.


The smoking ruins of an unidentified 77th.FS P-51
sits next to the runway at King's Cliffe. No details of
the incident are known.

"Happy Jack's Go Buggy" recreated by the Fighter Collection in England.
Later repainted as "California Cutie", another 20th.FG P-38,
it was destroyed in a crash during the Duxford Air Show.
